WHO WE ARE
Above Water Adventures was created to provide a fun, healthy, and constructive outlet for those in early recovery. We strive to facilitate a safe and (often) exhilarating setting to push through boundaries and break down barriers. Recovery is not for the faint of heart, it requires courage, willingness, and an innate desire to change. We’re here to offset some of the inherent weight carried during the initial steps of that journey. Our mission is bolster support and fellowship — and above all, help clients recognize that adventure, fun, and zest for life starts in recovery — not the other way around.
Nate Lawler
Nate is a lifelong surfer, accomplished recording artist, and entrepreneur. He is well-known for his band ‘Death on Wednesday‘ — which helped him cultivate a successful two-decade long music career. Throughout which, Nate toured nationally with bands such as Social Distortion, Sublime, and Alkaline Trio.
During his music career Nate began to struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. “I could play a show where a thousand kids were singing my songs and still walk away empty inside. Sure, alcohol and drugs made that void go away at first but eventually I couldn’t fill the emptiness inside of me.”
Since getting sober Nate has been heavily involved in the Southern California recovery scene. He is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and one of the pioneering members of Rock to Recovery. In 2018 Nate shifted his trajectory to start his own recovery-based business centered around outdoor-recreational therapy — allowing him to combine his life-long passions with his sincere desire to help others.
